Mexico's Ministry of Public Education Delegation Visited BFSU

On 21 September, Francisco Luciano Concheiro Borquez, Vice Minister of Public Education of Mexico, led a delegation to visit Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Zhao Gang, Vice President of BFSU, met with Francisco and his delegation.



Zhao Gang introduced BFSU as well as the International Business School and the School of Spanish and Portuguese Studies. He fully affirmed the contribution made by the Centre for Mexican Studies in promoting educational and cultural exchanges between China and Mexico. He was very glad that BFSU could sign the General Cooperation Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with the Metropolitan Autonomous University of Mexico and the University of Zelaya respectively, and he hoped that BFSU had the chance to collaborate with more Mexican universities to promote humanistic exchanges with Latin America in the future.

Francisco reviewed the development of Mexico's Ministry of Public Education and higher education in the country, and introduced the Mexican universities that visited BFSU this time. Francisco said that the Centre for Mexican Studies in cooperation between UNAM and BFSU is of great significance to the exchanges and cooperation between two countries, and he also hoped that this visit could deepen the mutual understanding between Mexican universities and BFSU, and lead more dialogues and cooperation in the future.

In the meeting, Zhao Gang delivered a welcome speech to the presidents and representatives from 18 Mexican universities. He said that this year marks the 10th year of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Mexico. He expects to promote the comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in academic and cultural areas with more Mexican universities, enhance mutual understanding on the language, culture, trade and economy, and provide more internationalization opportunities for our students under partnership framework.

Alfonso Sesma Julian, Head of International Cooperation and Education of the Mexican Embassy to China, spoke as a representative of the Mexican delegation. He said that BFSU is a world-class foreign language university and also a window to the world. BFSU is an important stop for the Mexican delegation's visit in China, and he hoped that this visit would build up a platform for the educational cooperation between China and Mexico.

Niu Huayong, Dean of International Business School of Beijing Foreign Studies University (IBS.BFSU), introduced the school and its program. This year, IBS.BFSU officially received the accreditation of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the most authoritative accreditation of global business education, which is an affirmation of BFSU's teaching quality, international development and future prospects. He hoped to take this activity as an opportunity to continue to deepen the cooperative relationship with Mexican universities and promote the friendly relationship between China and Mexico from education exchange.

Emilio Castillo Diaz (城爱明), IBS.BFSU postgraduate student from Mexico, spoke as a student representative. Deeply attracted by the motto of BFSU, "Learn with an open mind, serve a great cause", he decided to pursue his study at BFSU after living in China for seven years. From application to enrolment, IBS.BFSU has given him a surprising experience that he has never had before, and also opened a window for him to further understand China. He hopes that more Mexican students like him will come to China, feel China, fall in love with China, and contribute to the exchange and cooperation between China and Mexico in the future.

At the meeting, Zhao Gang and representatives of the University of Celaya exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding.



Participants in the meeting include: Luis Armando González Placencia, General Secretary of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions of Mexico (ANUIES); Alfonso Sesma Julian, Head of the International Cooperation and Education Division of the Mexican Embassy to China; Li Chunli, Chairman of International Business School Committee; Niu Huayong, Dean of International Business School; Cui Xiaoning Member of International Business School Committee, International Business School, Chang Fuliang, Dean of School of Hispanic and Portuguese Studies, and Li Maolin, Deputy director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office of BFSU.
