In his speech, Ma spoke highly of the collaboration between BFSU and SOAS in the field of country and area studies. SOAS serves as Europe’s hub for Asian and African studies and is widely recognized as a world-class educational institution, while BFSU is one of the earliest Chinese universities to develop country and area studies, with unique linguistic and disciplinary strengths, Ma stated.

Their cooperation not only drives the development of both parties, but also bolsters exchanges among young scholars from China and abroad. By fostering mutual understanding and the sharing of resources, this partnership contributes to knowledge production aimed at realizing global inclusiveness and shared growth, playing a significant role in safeguarding world peace, Ma added.

The evolving international landscape and the emergence of new technologies present opportunities for the development of country and area studies and talent training, Zhao noted, adding that BFSU and SOAS share a common vision with respect to disciplinary development, and have established a solid foundation for collaboration over the years.

He further stated that their partnerships will improve the quality of talent cultivation and enhance the international influence of both institutions.

Hammond expressed that SOAS has always prioritized equitable partnerships with universities and institutions around the world since its establishment. The school has a long-standing academic relationship with China, particularly with BFSU, through productive faculty and student exchanges.

She voiced enthusiasm for further deepening cooperation with BFSU in the field of country and area studies.
