On December 23, 2020, Thomas Talhelm, associate professor from Booth Business School of Chicago University, was invited by the Cross-cultural Management Research Center and Business Management Department of IBS to give an academic lecture entitled "Rice Theory from the Perspective of Cross-Cultural Psychology". The lecture was presided over by Li Qian, director of the Cross-cultural Management Research Center.
Based on his article "Large-Scale Psychological Differences Within China Explained by Rice Versus Wheat Agriculture" published on Science, Professor Thomas specifically introduced the "The Rice Theory" cultural proposed in the article, including the research background, research process and latest research progress. Then, he explained their practices in data collection and field trials in China through vivid case sharing. During the Q&A session, Professor Thomas answered the teachers’ questions in detail. His wonderful speech has benefited everyone a lot, and triggered further thinking on the application of "rice theory" to cross-cultural management research.
